Lesson Of The Day: My Black Is Beautiful....

Keeping It Real: From the color of my skin, to the texture of my hair to the length of my strands, to the breath of my smile. To the stride of my gait, to the span of my arms, to the depth of my bosom, to the curve of my hips, to the glow of my skin...My Black is Beautiful. It cannot be denied. It will not be contained. And only I will define it. For when I look in my mirror, my very soul cries out, My Black is Beautiful! Ya Dig?...

Lesson Of The Day: MOST Young Black People & Police Officials...

Keeping It Real: It is a given, that MOST Black people, be them, from 10-100years old kinda fear the police! We are intimidated by them because of what has been going on for years in OUR community BUT NOT all OFFICERS are bad cops!! That's like saying because one Black person did something wrong, WE ALL ARE BAD, right? WRONG!!!

I have a brother, who is a county Sheriff and his wife is a local police turned detective where they live at and  when you hear some of the stories they have to go through, you do get empathy for police! God FORBID. they have to pull over or arrest a member of their OWN family, then they are LOW DOWN DIRTY DOGS, even though the family member IS WRONG!!!

Police get a bad rap JUST BECAUSE and when they do something wrong, then they all are bad but when they do good, then it's cool! They arrest a person who murdered your child, they are the best folks in the world, or even catch a person breaking into your home BUT LET THEM PULL you over for speeding which you know you were doing or anything that would warrant them arresting or pulling you over, then they are dirty dogs!!

The YOUNG generation has a a bad image and taste for cops and it is sad, that the majority of them have NO respect for police officials and the minute, it is *white* cops doing THEIR JOB, not to mention, all the crazies we have out here, they are wrong! I don't understand it and maybe it is not meant for me to understand but ALL COPS ARE NOT bad, just like all Black aren't stupid and all whites aren't smart! Ya Dig?...

Lesson Of The day: Black History Facts, W.E.B. Du Bois

Keeping It Real: Scholar and Activist W.E.B. Du Bois. He was in 1868. In 1895, he became the first African American to earn a Ph.D. from Harvard University. Du Bois wrote extensively and was the best known spokesperson for African American rights. He co-founded the NAACP in 1909. He died in 1963. Ya Dig?..

Happy Birthday My Son Donte....

Screaming Happy Birthday to my one and only son, Donte' Davis!!! I love you son and wish you an enjoyable, Blessed and fun day! Love you so much....

Lesson of The Day: Blacks And Reality Shows/Stations (VH1, Bravo, Oxygen, MTV, etc.)

Keeping It Real: I find it very amusing that some Black people think the stations like Oxygen, Bravo, VH1, MTV, TVone, WEtv just to name a few put Blacks people in a horrible way when they are aired on their stations and reality shows!

1. They have to cast for these shows, the stations do not walk around with camera crews just filming folks without their permission!

2. They also have to sign a CONTRACT to be seen on a reality show!

3. How can a reality show and station put Black people in a bad light if they never cast for it or sign a contract?

For the record, these stations have other races reality shows as well, so are they putting Black people in a bad way or any race that is foolish enough to sign up and have a camera crew follow you around and film your EVERYTHING??

It's entertainment and if they want to entertain folks with their life and lifestyle, so be it, right? Ya Dig???

Lesson of The Day: God Is Truly Amazing...

Keeping It Real: As for God, His way is perfect.  The Word of the Lord has stood the test.  He is a covering for all who go to Him for a safe place.  For Who is God, but the LORD? And who is a rock except our God?  It is God Who covers me with strength and makes my way perfect.  He makes my feet like the feet of deer.  And He sets me on my high places.  He teaches me how to fight, so that I can use a bow of brass.  You have also given me the covering that saves me. Your right hand holds me up.  And Your care has made me great (Psalm 18:30-35).

What  a wonderful scripture of encouragement about just how marvelous and loving my God, your God truly is!

I was thinking this morning about the various season of life.  Some times we are in that season of maturing.  During this season God is growing us, molding us, and possibility disciplining us.  Sometimes that season can get very difficult but yet, God continues to strengthen us even when we are disobedient to His Will.  You might not have experienced this but I have.  I have heard the Word and yet, I was disobedient.

But thanks be to God, He continued to strength me through His Word, by conviction and direction.  Yes, God's Word is powerful and it has the power to do just what is needed in our time of maturing.

When I think of discipline I typically think of how I discipline my children.  And this typically involves a bit of though love - God is no different.  Sometimes to get us to where we need to be, we have to encounter some tough love from God. Tough love can be difficult at times, but for us to grow in Christ we must learn to stop, look and yes, listen.

In Psalms 18, the Word of God tells me that not only does He strengthen me, but He gives me endurance to withstand - He provides me a safe place in Him, and He makes my way perfect.  Ya Dig?..

Lesson Of The Day: Black History Facts, Black Man Lost..

Keeping It Real: Why is it that when some Black men dates a NON Black woman then dates a Black woman again, his opinion of his sistahs change?

You want to date a non-Black woman?, I have no problem with that but there's no need to disrespect us because you have lost your way!

Our aggressiveness used to be the STRONG woman you so desired! Our need to be independent suddenly becomes we want to be THE MAN! Our hearty laugh becomes we are too loud!

In my opinion, the Black men that find us lacking is saying a lot about their own feeling,s ESPECIALLY if they have Black grannies, mothers, sisters, aunts, daughters, nieces and girl cousins! It speaks volumes to me!

No need to put them on a pedestal,  just to "justify" why you are dating out! Just date them without dissing your sisters! Ya Dig?..

Lesson Of The Day: Good Black Man....

Keeping It Real: Good Black Man are indeed all around us.

We pass them on the streets, in the malls, in captivity behind the walls, and in the hall at work.  Most we can't see because we say we want a good man, but do we really? We want the flashy or rich guys to buy us the good things. He has to wear all the bling bling or push a Lexus.  Sometimes we want the "body by Fisher" or a face for “GQ."  But  as you mature, you realize it's better to find someone who's got your back than someone who  turns your head.

A Good Black Man doesn't agree wholeheartedly with everything you say.  He doesn't just tell you what you want to hear and do the opposite.  He doesn't have to declare how sensitive, sweet, caring, sincere, yada, yada, yada, he is (he won't  have to...because it shows). He has his own opinions & you may clash, but he doesn't have to degrade you to prove he's right.  He even admits at times to being wrong, especially if you are willing to do the same

A Good Black Man is not going to meet every  item on your checklist. He is human with frailties & faults mixed in with all of his sexy, sensual  attributes.  He needs your love & respect.  He needs to feel that you don't have to catch him doing something wrong so you can declare "Aha I knew all along"

A Good Black Man doesn't have to give you a huge Birthday or Valentine gift.  He shows his  love in the ways that are comfortable to him.  Don't judge him by TV standards.  No one is living that Fairytale--for real.

BLACK MEN we salute you, and thank you for who you are, and all you've done.

Pass this along to some of the "Good Black Men" you know, and a few women that need to read it! Ya Dig?....

Lesson Of The Day: Black History Facts, Henry Sampson, Cell Phone Inventor

Keeping It Real:  Did you know that we have Henry Sampson to thank for the invention of the cell phone? He is the first African American to earn a Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering in the United States. On July 6th, 1971, Henry T. Sampson invented the "gamma-electric cell", which pertains to Nuclear Reactor use.

Mobile Communications took a big step forward in 1983 with the i
nvention of the Cellular System regulating the portable telephones, which use radio waves to transmit and receive audio signals. Before this time, mobile telephone service in the United States, consisting mainly of car phones, was extremely limited because metropolitan areas had only one antenna for these purposes.

He holds patents related to solid rocket motors and conversion of nuclear energy into electricity. He also pioneered a study of internal ballistics of solid rocket motors using high-speed photography.

He was also a producer of documentary films on early black filmmakers and films. Ya Dig?..

Lesson Of The Day: Black History Facts, Blacks Should Be Outraged....

Keeping It Real: We should be outraged at our own people for killing off the dreams and hopes of an entire race.

I will never for the life of me UNDERSTAND how we as a Black race gets so riled up, confused, angry, irritated, ready to start a riot when a Black person is killed by another race!!

Regardless, if it was intentional, how can we as a race stand by on a DAILY basis and hear of and or see the SAME KILLINGS, sometimes for NO rhyme or reason, day in and day out, in our own community/neighborhood and BE OKAY WITH IT?!

People rallied, put on hoodies and was outraged when George Zimmerman killed Trayvon but do you all KNOW HOW MANY BLACK BOYS, INNOCENT CHILDREN & PEOPLE have been killed SENSELESSLY by Black people since Trayvon has died? Too DAMN MANY to count!

How many hoodies were worn when a BABY was killed because somebody was shooting at HER FATHER, who didn't get shot, but his child was killed? What about the girl that went to the White House and met President Obama and then a few weeks later, she was shot in the back & killed, what about the baby that was shot & killed lying in her bed because of random gunfire? All of these incidents happened in a BLACK neighborhood and all of these PEOPLE WERE KILLED BY BLACK PEOPLE!!!!!

I say, if a Black man saw a white man kill a Black man, would HE TELL? Hellllllllllllllll yeah, he would and wouldn't that be considered snitching?

Somebody, PLEASE HELP & MAKE ME understand, why THIS IS OKAY???? Where is THE OUTRAGE for these innocent folks, what?, it doesn't matter because their killers were BLACK??? I don't understand and I really, believe IN MY HEART, that ANY explanation GIVEN will NOT make me understand, because it is NOT RIGHT AND most definitely fits the double standard rules, in my opinion!!

Lesson Of The Day: Amen, Amen, Amen....

Keeping It Real: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation ( 1 Corinthians 5:17-18).

Let's take a poll - how many woman receiving this e-mail have a dress, a pair of jeans, maybe a cute skirt and you know, yes you know, you will never every get back into?  OK - I think we all have at least one secret item that we just can't give up.  We hold on to it as if our body is going to miraculously forget we are not getting any younger.  And why is it as you get older - those pounds just have to gravity to the mid section.  Yes they do. Anyway - we all have stuff we don't want to get rid of for one reason or another.  It seems to just be in our nature.  But when we come to Christ - we are transformed and all becomes brand new.

Or are we still holding on to that old stuff? Now when I am speaking of stuff, I am not referring to an article of clothing, but stuff that we carry throughout our life just keeping us bound.

I heard this analogy today and would like to share it with my Sisters.  If you ever just take a moment and speak to a homeless person, they typically have a lot of stuff in some sort of bag or maybe even a shopping cart. They carry all of their most precious moments with them.  Maybe some not so precious but never the less they care around with them their entire life - things they hold dear to them.  But don't we do the same thing.  Maybe we don't look at heartache as precious,  but we carry it around.  Maybe you don't look at divorce as precious, but we carry the pain and guilt of that relationship around with us.  Maybe you don't look at horrible name calling or negativity as precious, but we carry them around with us every where we go.

My Sisters - let it go!  You have been set free by the Blood of Christ - all things become brand new - start living in your newness - God is more than able to supply ALL that you needs.

Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed (John 8:36). Ya Dig?..

Lesson Of The Day: Black Man Cake....

Keeping It Real: THERE WERE SPECIAL INGREDIENTS GOD USED IN MAKING A “GOOD BLACK MAN”.

I'm making a black man cake cause I'm hungry as hell and the sweet tooth I have only a brotha’ can break the spell.  Let me reach into my cupboard to see what I can find.  To make a mix that will stick to my stomach and blow a brotha’s mind.

2 cups of Respect me as your woman, wife, lover and friend

1 cup of molasses brown (Cause he's got to be sweet, mental, deep, chocolate and feet firmly planted on the ground)

Nutmeg is always good to bring a smile to his face

A few cups of The Bible, so he knows about God’s good grace (I won't bite into anything that's not spiritually found, I want him to know the Lord, he can’t be hellbound )

I am adding 2 sticks of butter cause he must have flavor

2 tablespoons of vanilla, something we women savor

I must add eggs so he can do his man thing, that is number one (Can't leave him hanging cause I know he wants his pretty princess and strong son)

I think I'll add a little hard liquor, cause I want a manly man

Just for the record, you ain’t a MAN, until you had some black tan

For a responsible man, I'll throw in some big tasty cocoNuts (So when she busts that outer shell, the savory juice will fill her gut!!)

I'll add 3 cups of bravery & 3 cups of courage and into the oven to bake

Turn it to 425 degrees, set the timer and wait for my REAL BLACK MAN CAKE!!

Now that it's done sistas, I won't share his wealth, but I'm sharing the recipe as I'm consuming this black man all by myself.  Ya Dig?..

Lesson of The Day: Black History Is....

Keeping It Real:

Black history month is
A time we celebrate
Retaliate
Recuperate
Cooperate
Let's get this straight
Not all whites were bad
Not all blacks were sad
Some were free
Some fulfilled their dreams
Some racism still goes on in the streets
But it's not as bad as it use to be
Some people choose to unite
Some choose to fight
Fathers tell the stories to their sons
The troubled ones won't put down their guns
Is there anyone who can save this world
Maybe the little ones, the boys and the girls
Mothers tell their daughters about her ancestors
And how some of their masters were violators
How would you feel
If you disobeyed your master
And he didn't feed you your meal
To read, write, and teach
Was hard to do without the correct grammar or speech
Not to mention that knowledge for a negro was against the law
If you did learn the master beat you until your skin looked raw
On a more happier note
You all know this famous quote
'I have a dream'
Everyone should have a dream
No matter how weird it seems
Believe in yourself, slavery is no more
Because we won the Civil War
YOU can stride for your score..: Ya Dig?...

Lesson Of The Day: Black History Fact, Jonathan Jasper Wright

Keeping It Real: Jonathan Jasper Wright, a black lawyer was born on this date in 1809. Wright attended Lancaster University. Upon completing his legal studies, he attempted to take the Pennsylvania bar, but he wasn't allowed, because of his race. Wright later accepted a position in Beaufort to open a school and teach the newly freed slaves. In addition to teaching at the school, he taught the black citizens of the community. Jonathan Wright lectured on legal and political matters and gave legal advice on labor relations. After Congress passed the Civil Rights Bill, Wright again petitioned the authorities in Pennsylvania to allow him to take the bar. His request was granted and he was admitted to the Bar on August 13, 1866. Upon taking the oath, Wright became the first black man licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania. Ya Dig?..

Lesson Of The Day: Black History Facts, Life Without Black People...

Keeping It Real:

A very humorous and revealing story is told about a group of white people who were fed up with African Americans, so they joined together and wished themselves away. They passed through a deep dark tunnel and emerged in sort of a twilight zone where there is an America without black people.

At first these white people breathed a sigh of relief.

'At last', they said, 'no more crime, drugs, violence and welfare.'

All of the blacks have gone! Then suddenly, reality set in. The 'NEW
AMERICA' is not  America at all - only a barren land.

1. There are very few crops that have flourished because the nation was built on a slave-supported system.

2. There are no cities with tall skyscrapers because Alexander Mils, a black man, invented the elevator, and without it, one finds great difficulty reaching higher floors.

3. There are few if any cars because Richard Spikes, a black man, invented the automatic gearshift, Joseph Gambol, also black, invented the Super Charge System for Internal Combustion Engines, and Garrett A. Morgan, a black man,
invented the traffic signals.

4. Furthermore, one could not use the rapid transit system because its procurer was the electric trolley, which was invented by another black man, Albert R. Robinson.

5. Even if there were streets on which cars and a rapid transit system could operate, they were cluttered with paper because an African American, Charles Brooks, invented the street sweeper..

6. There were few if any newspapers, magazines and books because John Love invented the pencil sharpener, William Purveys invented the fountain pen, and Lee Barrage invented the Type Writing Machine and W. A. Love invented the
Advanced Printing Press. They were all, you guessed it, Black.

7. Even if Americans could write their letters, articles and books, they would not have been transported by mail because William Barry invented the Postmarking and Canceling Machine, William Purveys invented the Hand Stamp and Philip Downing invented the Letter Drop.

8. The lawns were brown and wilted because Joseph Smith invented the Lawn Sprinkler and John Burr the Lawn Mower.

9. When they entered their homes, they found them to be poorly ventilated and poorly heated. You see, Frederick Jones invented the Air Conditioner and Alice Parker the Heating Furnace. Their homes were also dim. But of course, Lewis
Lattimer later invented the Electric Lamp, Michael Harvey invented the lantern, and Granville T. Woods invented the Automatic Cut off Switch. Their homes were also filthy because Thomas W. Steward invented the Mop and Lloyd P.. Ray the Dust Pan.

10. Their children met them at the door - barefooted, shabby, motley and unkempt.  But what could one expect? Jan E. Matzelinger invented the Shoe Lasting Machine, Walter Sammons invented the Comb, Sarah Boone invented the Ironing Board, and George T. Samon invented the Clothes Dryer.

11. Finally, they were resigned to at least have dinner amidst all of this turmoil. But here again, the food had spoiled because another Black Man, John Standard invented the refrigerator.

Now, isn't that something? What would this country be like without the contributions of Blacks, as African-Americans?

Martin Luther King, Jr. said, 'by the time we leave for work, millions of Americans have depended on the inventions from the minds of Blacks.'

Black history includes more than just slavery, Frederick Douglass, Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, and Marcus Garvey & W.E.B. Dubois. Ya Dig?...

Lesson Of The Day: You NEED Jesus...

Keeping It Real: Sometimes we have to be at our lowest point in life to realize how much we need Jesus Christ in our life. It is sad that the only way He can grab our attention is when we hit rock bottom. No other place to look but up to Him! Lesson Of The Day: Black History Fact, John Adams Hyman

Keeping It Real: Imagine being born into slavery only to be taken out of your parents arms and sold because you attempted to teach yourself to read and write. That's what happened to John Adams Hyman, who – after being sold eight more times for attempting to educate himself – was freed at the age of 25 by the Thirteenth Amendment, and who 10 years later was the first African American elected to represent North Carolina in the U.S. House of Representatives. By all accounts, Hyman led an extraordinary life! Ya Dig?..

Lesson Of The Day: Black History Fact, Descendants of Mighty Nations, Kings, Queens & Educators..

Keeping It Real: One of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to the celebration of Black History month is the willful neglect to discuss our history which contrary to popular belief did NOT begin with and/or start post slavery.

We as people are descendants of Mighty Nations, Kings, Queens and Educators!

Let's tell them the history, Black History of The Songhai Empire of West Africa: Ghana, Mali, Chad, Niger, N
igeria, and Senegal.

Did you know that the Kingdom of Ghana’s political and cultural history extends as far back as the early Christian era. That the people of Ghana were prosperous as farmers and traders. That the main town Kumbi Saleh was an important commercial center during the Middle Ages. Kumbi Saleh had a native and an Arab population, from which the religion of Islam was adopted. Under the Sisse dynasty, Ghana reached the height of its power. Tribes as far north as Tichit (Mauritania) paid tribute to the king of Ghana. Ya Dig?...

Lesson Of The Day: Black History Fact, King Hannibal Barca

Keeping It Real: King Hannibal Barca 247-183 B.C. was one of the most brilliant military strategists ever to have lived. He conquered major portions of Europe, particularly Italy and Spain. His clever, complex operations defied common logic and are studied even today by military leaders worldwide.

King Hannibal is considered by many historians to be the most powerful military general the world has ever known. Napoleon himself is quoted as rating him first among the seven greatest military generals of all time. Some of King Hannibal's most notable characteristics were constant strategic planning, courage, patience and persistence. Ya Dig?..

Lesson Of The Day: Black History Fact, Mansa Musa of Mali

Keeping It Real: Mansa Musa of Mali (1280-1337) is still considered the richest person to walk this earth. It is recorded that his fortune totaled $400 billion. He is most known for the pilgrimage he made to Mecca in 1324 where He spent and gave away so much gold that he caused an inflation in Egypt that depressed their economic system for 12 years. Lesson Of The Day: Incomplete...

Keeping It Real: And when the men of that place recognized Jesus, they sent word to all the surrounding country. People brought all their sick to him  and begged him to let the sick just touch the edge of his cloak, and all who touched it were healed (Matthew 14:35-36).

In Christ we are complete, but without Christ we are incomplete.  So I started thinking.  If I am complete in Him then why do I feel so incomplete at times.  This verse of Matthew speaks of the ill who need healing, but isn't that our state.  Are we not all in need of a Man who can heal us from all affliction, physical, mental and yes carnality.  In my complete state I feel satisfied - In 1 Thessalonians 1:3 Paul reminds me, "remembering without ceasing your work of faith, labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God and Father".

So what Paul is telling us is that even in those moments of incompleteness remember - The same God who presents me, with new grace and new mercies each day (Lamentations 3). I should and shall seek Him, daily.

So of course I started thinking how to best describe this process - if I fill my life with the Spirit of God and then allow other junk in - what happens? Glad you asked.  So I took a cup of cold water, ice cold water.  Filled it to the top, then started to fill the cup with tap water, guess what happened.  All the cold water, was now room temperature.  Yes, when we take all that God has placed in us, and we start filling it up with other junk, that junk takes over.

All who gathered, had faith.  Faith that just one touch of His cloak and they were made whole.  What are you believing God to do in your life.  He is already a live in you - exercise your faith as the crowd who  gathered on that day, and you too, will be complete. Ya Dig?...

Lesson Of The Day: Happy Black History Month...

Keeping It Real: February is the month for Black History. Where Blacks have come a long way with Less losses and More victories.

Quoting the Great Dr. Martin Luther King, we shall overcome and free at last, Black History means to me Great Black makers and Great Black makings of the past.

We shall and have overcome many obstacles blocking our stride, Martin Luther King dreamed it, Obama achieved it and he did it with dignity and much pride!

Say it loud, I am Black and Proud. Say it again, I'm proud of my Black Heritage, my Black Skin and Proud to be a Black American!! Ya Dig?...
