Keeping It Real: So then, let us not be like others, who are
asleep, but let us be awake and sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk,
get drunk at night. But
since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a
breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but
to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. He died for us so that, whether we are awake
or asleep, we may live together with him. Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just
as in fact you are doing (1 Thessalonians 5:6-11).
How often have you tried to fit in? I
believe this is a part of who we are. We
all want to feel as though we belong, but don’t you know we do belong. We belong to God. But yet, we feel we need to be accepted and
fit into what society says is the “norm”.
But their “norm” is not God’s norm.
In fact, God tells us that we are different, “we have been set apart”
(Psalm 4:3). A chosen generation, a
royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people..(1 Peter 2:9).
Because we have been set apart, because we
are His chosen we need to be sober minded at all times. Not only sober minded but we must also learn
to encourage one another. When we come
together week after week, we develop relationships with one another. The word
of God warns us not only to be watchful of our own hearts, thoughts, words and
actions but those of our brothers and sisters.
I now this is an old concept but we are truly our brother’s and our
sister’s keeper!
As we develop in Christ, we also develop with our brother’s
and sister’s. This is our family and we
need to learn to come together in unity and harmony. We need to learn to lead an ear to the joys
as well as the pains of our family members.
When one hurts we all hurt, when one rejoices, we all rejoice – Amen.
Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be
lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in
hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people
who are in need. Practice hospitality
(Romans 12:9-13). Amen....Be Blessed! Ya Dig?..
